Goldman Sachs has been serving clients in India since the 1980s and established an onshore presence in Mumbai, India in December 2006 following a ten-year joint venture. 


Today, our businesses serve leading corporate and institutional clients through corporate finance advisory, equity sales and trading and fixed income securities businesses, as well as providing macro-economic and investment research.  

The firm continues to advise on a number of India’s most significant transactions, including:

  • $7 billion rights issue for Reliance Industries in 2020, one of the largest rights issues for an Indian corporate
  • ArcelorMittal’s $7 billion acquisition of Essar Steel in 2019, one of the largest inbound metals & mining acquisition and successful bankruptcy resolution transaction in India
  • Flipkart’s $17 billion sale to Walmart in 2018, one of the largest M&A in India

Goldman Sachs is also an active investor in India, deploying more than $7 billion in capital since 2006.

Investments include ReNew Power, a leading independent power producer with one the country’s fastest-growing wind and solar power platforms, as well as Aragen Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd, a leading R&D and manufacturing solutions provider for the global life sciences industry.

Our Bengaluru and Hyderabad offices opened in 2004 and 2021 respectively, and today are technology hubs of the firm and are integral to our global businesses and operations. With approximately 9,000 professionals across the two cities, collectively these offices are the second largest presence of the firm globally.
 

In 2014, the firm broke ground on a new campus in Bengaluru and invested approximately $250 million on the construction and the completion of a state of the art complex, which was opened in May of 2019. Goldman Sachs expanded its India footprint and opened a new office in Hyderabad in July 2021.
