Goldman Sachs Hosts 'Out for Undergrad Business Conference'

Goldman Sachs hosted the twelfth annual Out for Undergrad Business Conference (OUBC) at its headquarters in Manhattan from September 30 to October 2, bringing together 300+ LGBT undergraduate students and 46 sponsoring banking, consulting and financial services firms.

OUBC’s mission is to educate, inspire, and advance LGBT undergraduates who are interested in careers in financial services, management consulting and professional services.

“While this particular conference is focused on students who identify as LGBT, this past weekend we met students from a wide variety of races, ethnicities, genders, disability statuses and/or military service records,” said Johann Shudlick, global head of diversity recruiting. “We’re always excited to meet candidates whose life experiences, educational credentials, personal challenges and differentiated skills position them to uniquely and exceptionally contribute to the service of our clients.”

The conference agenda included remarks from Shudlick and Julie Harris, a managing director in Goldman Sachs’ Operations division, as well as a panel discussion on gender diversity, industry-specific breakout sessions and a case competition.

“The conference provided me the opportunity to learn more about the firm from a business perspective, but more importantly, a personal perspective: it was during OUBC that I was able to uncover the vibrant LGBTQ+ community that Goldman fosters,” said Dakotah, an analyst in the Investment Banking Division who attended the conference in 2013 before receiving an offer to join the firm. “I met members of the network and visualized the robust support Goldman provides to its LGBTQ+ employees, which gave me confidence that I can work in finance and also bring my whole self to work.”
