My Summer at Goldman Sachs: Kevin

08 JUN 2018

Kevin joined Goldman Sachs for a 10-week Summer Analyst Internship in Litigation during the summer of 2017. He shares some insights below.

BIO:

  • Hometown: Queens (Jackson Heights), NY
  • Studied at Bard College in upstate New York
  • Majored in Politics
  • Internship: Litigation team in the Legal Department

ABOUT HIS INTERNSHIP:

  • Second summer internship with Goldman Sachs
  • Supported broad functions of the litigation team relating to regulatory matters and other issues

MOST SURPRISING PART OF THE SUMMER INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE:
“I was surprised at how kind and generous people are here, and very willing to spend time with you, and mentor your career and make sure that you have an amazing experience. I think the greatest asset of Goldman Sachs is its people.”

BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IN THE SECOND YEAR OF INTERNSHIP:
“I was able to more quickly take on the responsibility of a full-time analyst, taking matters from start to finish, posting my manager as appropriate but having her have the confidence and trust that I would be able to handle something and use good judgment. I was trusted to know when I should escalate any issue.”

BEST ACCOMPLISHMENT THIS SUMMER:
“It’s hard to pick a specific moment. The first time that I drafted a response letter for one of our more complex matters, and there were no comments back from the attorney. And this was a particular attorney who goes through line by line meticulously— after reviewing with my team we ended up sending the letter as I had drafted it. That was huge for me.”
