Commitment to Talent: Goldman Sachs Black Analyst and Associate Initiative

13 FEB 2018

Goldman Sachs’ Black Analyst and Associate Initiative is an important part of the firm’s commitment to having the best talent at all levels. Across the Americas and EMEA, the initiative engages more than 1,000 participants, managers and coaches and is supported by 41 senior sponsors.

The program focuses on growing and retaining a diverse talent pipeline for the firm and empowering managers to develop and retain talent. It is open to all black analysts and associates at the firm and fosters relationships among participants, coaches, managers and senior sponsors. Career development coaches work closely with participants and their managers to develop short and long-term career goals, consider mobility and networking opportunities, and discuss pathways to promotion. Senior sponsors also host roundtable discussions and collect participant experiences to share with divisional leadership as the initiative progresses.

Recently, the initiative welcomed new participants and celebrated its fourth year with a networking reception and panel discussion. Kayla, an analyst in the Investment Management Division, spoke on the panel along with her manager and career development coach, and reflected on their role in her experience at the firm. “They both offer a unique perspective— together, they can hold you responsible for development and growth and help navigate challenging situations.”

“My favorite part of the initiative is that I get to drive the conversations,” Kayla continued. “My coach, manager and I can talk about anything; whether it be about work, professional development, career plans or social issues, the program has given me a platform and safe space to have those conversations.”
