Become a 2023 Goldman Sachs
Community Development Champion

Applications for 2023 now closed.

At Goldman Sachs, we believe that strong communities are the foundation of a prosperous society. Through our Community Development Grants Program, we provide funding for non-profits that are making a difference in low- and moderate-income (LMI) communities.

Not-for-profit organizations that meet the below criteria are invited to apply for funding.  The Goldman Sachs Community Development Grants Program seeks to support community development programs that address critical community needs such as:

  • Affordable housing
  • Community services such as education, including financial education for youth and consumers
  • Small business development
  • Neighborhood revitalization

This year we are particularly interested in supporting programs related to consumer financial health and LMI homeownership.

Community development programs must address community needs for LMI areas or households in one or more of the following geographies:

  • New York: the five boroughs of New York City
  • New Jersey: Hudson County, Essex County
  • Utah: Salt Lake County, Summit County, Tooele County

This competitive process seeks to fund high impact, program-related grants, generally ranging from $25,000 to $150,000. Not-for-profits that are aligned with these programmatic and geographic guidelines are encouraged to apply.

To be considered for a grant, applicants must be domestic, non-profit, tax-exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.

Applications for 2023 are now closed.

A look at our previous champions...

2022 Cohort of Goldman Sachs Community Development Champions

The 2022 cohort of Goldman Sachs Community Development Champions included leading not-for-profits from New York, New Jersey and Utah, ranging from an organization that empowers low-income individuals to become productive participants in the U.S. financial system to an organization that support services to young people experiencing homelessness to organizations that preserve and develop affordable housing. Our Champions are expected to impact over 550,000 people over the time period of the grant and over 1,200 businesses.

The firm convened our 2022 Community Development Champions to understand community needs and inform our community development programming.

Through our discussions, not-for-profits told us that:

  • Restrictive and inefficient funding is a key challenge
  • Funding often comes with too many restrictions and onerous reporting requirements
  • Non-profits need longer-term grants; stable, predictable funding is needed to have sustainable impact in communities

Our community engagement efforts resulted in broad and deep learning. Goldman Sachs appreciated the feedback gathered throughout this process and will work to apply these learnings in our future grant process.
