Beyond Copenhagen; The Role of the Private Sector, December 2009, Copenhagen, Denmark
Goldman Sachs took an active role in the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, engaging with corporate clients, investors, policy makers, NGOs and other market participants. In partnership with the International Energy Trading Association, Goldman Sachs convened a group of CEOs and senior executives for a discussion entitled, “Beyond Copenhagen: The Role of the Private Sector.” In this session, representatives from a broad spectrum of industries reacted to the potential of a global climate deal and in particular to US legislation, and discussed the policy initiatives that can help further the efforts of the private sector.
Goldman Sachs and Wildlife Conservation Society Forest Carbon Offsets and the Emerging U.S. Climate Change Legislation – September, 2009, New York, NY
Goldman Sachs and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) conducted an executive briefing on forest carbon offsets and US climate legislation. The briefing brought together Goldman Sachs clients, non-governmental organizations and charitable foundations to highlight the importance of international forest carbon and the need for developing a market mechanism that will help value forests more alive than dead.
Goldman Sachs AE4: Fourth Annual Alternative Energy Conference – May 2009, New York, NY
Goldman Sachs hosted the firm’s fourth annual Alternative Energy Conference (AE4). Meeting in New York City, panelists and keynote speakers covered a wide range of topics in alternative energy, including carbon pricing, the technology and investment outlook, and the stability of access to capital. Leading congressional staff members, along with senior-level representation from the European Commission and several leading NGOs addressed key public policy concerns in both developed and developing countries. They also discussed carbon mitigation strategy, including the likely structure of national and regional cap-and-trade frameworks.

Goldman Sachs Global Water Conference – December 2008, London, UK
The Goldman Sachs Global Investment Research team and the Goldman Sachs Center for Environmental Markets hosted a global water conference in December 2008 in London, England. The conference convened over 100 thought leaders, practioners, investors and industry analysts in the water sector. The wide-ranging discussion included detailed accounts of trends in water equipment, technology and services, as well as a robust conversation on desalination, industry opportunities and investing strategies. A presentation by the World Resources Institute, an environmental think tank and a partner of the Center for Environmental Markets, brought forth scientific data that highlighted global trends and challenges due to increased water scarcity.
