Michael Parekh Photo Michael Parekh (Media/Portals)
Michael Parekh, Managing Director, joined Goldman Sachs in 1982 and currently heads the Internet Research Team. In 1994, Michael pioneered Internet investment research on Wall Street and has been closely involved in the formative years of the commercialization of the Internet. Goldman Sachs has lead-managed two dozen-plus leading Internet companies it has brought public since 1994. Michael was ranked a leading Internet Analyst in the 1996-1999 Institutional Investor All-America Research Team and the 1997-1999 Greenwich Associates surveys. He has authored and collaborated on a number of Internet publications. In addition, Michael has launched and hosted a number of popular investor conferences that focus on the Internet and cyber-commerce. Previously, he worked in Institutional Equity Research Sales specializing in technology research sales. Michael has an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Finance from Auburn University in Alabama.


Lilly Bahramipour Photo Lilly Bahramipour (Internet Software)
Lilly Bahramipour, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in August 1998. She works in the Technology Group covering Internet software. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Lilly worked at Lehman Brothers covering enterprise relationship management (ERP), systems management, customer relationship management (CRM), and telecommunications software. She also worked at Montgomery Securities, where she helped cover telecommunications stocks. Lilly received her degree from the University of California at Davis.


Michael Beebe (Computer Software/Services)
Michael Beebe, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in 1994. He has covered the U.S. publishing and advertising industries since 1997. He was named a next-generation analyst in the 1999 Institutional Investor poll. Previously, Michael worked with Nomi Ghez in the packaged food industry. He is a CFA and a graduate of James Madison University, where he studied Quantitative Finance and Economics.

Thomas Berquist, Managing Director, covers business-to-business (B2B) commerce infrastructure and eMarkets. Prior to joining Goldman in mid-1999, Tom covered B2B commerce and enterprise software companies at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray. While at Piper Jaffray, Mr. Berquist built its software and B2B Commerce practice into a top-five position in banking and research coverage in his sectors. Prior to Piper Jaffray, Tom was a senior manager in the Management Consulting Practice for Deloitte Consulting. While at Deloitte Consulting, Mr. Berquist sold and managed large-scale software development and implementation projects for Fortune 500 clients around the world. Tom started his career at Wells Fargo developing securities processing applications. He has an M.B.A in Management and a B.A. in Accounting from the University of St. Thomas, Saint Paul, MN.


Laura Conigliaro Photo Laura Conigliaro (Enterprise Server & Storage Companies)
Laura Conigliaro, Managing Director, joined Goldman Sachs in May, 1996 and currently follows enterprise server and storage companies. Laura currently splits her time between the Technology Group's offices in New York and Menlo Park, CA where she heads the Menlo Park research effort. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Laura spent 17 years as a computer and design automation analyst at Prudential Securities, where she specialized in enterprise computing, servers, workstations, PCs, and design automation. During her tenure at Prudential Securities, she was the Associate Director of Research. Laura also worked as an intelligence analyst at the National Security Agency. She is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and Institutional Investor's All-America Research Team as well as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Laura has an M.B.A. in Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University and graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. from Boston University.


Rajiv Das Photo Rajiv Das (Canadian Technology)
Rajiv Das, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in March 2000. Rajiv works in the Canadian Research Group covering technology as a generalist, with an emphasis on software, e-commerce and Internet stocks. Previously, Rajiv worked for CIBC World Markets as a director in institutional equity research covering e-commerce, computer services, wireless, and Internet stocks. He also worked at Nortel Networks as a senior manager and engineer in both Canada and Asia. Rajiv received his M.B.A. from the University of Western Ontario and his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from McGill University.


David Derman Photo David Derman (e-Learning)
David Derman joined Goldman Sachs in August 1999 and is the e-Learning research analyst. He has previous work experience at Citigroup, Birinyi Associates, and Orbis Investments. David holds a M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in International Relations and a B.S.E. in Finance, magna cum laude.


Jamie Friedman Photo Jamie Friedman (B2B e-Commerce)
Jamie Friedman, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in November 1998. As a member of the B2B e-Commerce Team, he covers infrastructure software companies. Jamie co-authored the industry report, B2B: 2B or Not 2B?, which was Wall Street's first study to size and describe the B2B investment opportunity. He has also worked with numerous industries to form consortia and has written extensively on the subject. He has presented his B2B thesis at many investor and economic forums in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Jamie works closely with the members of the Equity and Economic Research Groups to evaluate opportunities in B2B in all parts of the economy. He has documented hundreds of B2B e-markets, and has designed a "secret sauce" formula to appraise and market their value. Jamie has an M.B.A., M.I.A., and B.A. from Columbia University.


Greg Gould Photo Greg Gould (IT/Internet Services)
Greg Gould, Managing Director, joined Goldman Sachs in 1990 and covers the IT/Internet services industry. Greg is ranked on the Institutional Investor, Greenwich, and Reuters surveys and has been a member of The Wall Street Journal's All-America Research Team. He has worked closely with the firm's investment banking group on transactions involving companies such as Computer Sciences, Concord EFS, Diamond Technology, Electronic Data Systems, National Data Corp., SABRE, Sapient, and Viant. He has a B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Frank J. Governali, Managing Director, joined Goldman Sachs in June 1999. As a member of the Communacopia Research Team, he is co-head of the Global Telecom Group and covers domestic telecom services. Frank has been a member of the Institutional Investor All-America Research Team since 1989. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, he was a managing director and analyst of telecom services companies at Credit Suisse First Boston Corporation. Prior to that, he was a vice president and analyst of telecom services companies at Kidder, Peabody & Co. Frank is a CFA and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts. He has an M.B.A. in Finance from New York University Graduate School of Business and a B.A. in History, magna cum laude, from Dartmouth College.

Rajeev Gupta, Executive Director and Securities Analyst, is responsible for covering the Internet and e-Services sectors in Asia. Mr. Gupta joined Goldman Sachs in 1996 as a member of the Asia Technology Research Team and was based in Singapore before transferring to Hong Kong in January 1999. Rajeev recently was rated as a top-ranked Internet Analyst in Institutional Investor magazine's All-Asia Research Team poll. He is also ranked in The Asset and Reuters Survey. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Rajeev was a risk management analyst with Bankers Trust in Australia. He received a Bachelor of Economics with Honors from the University of Sydney.

Michael Hodes, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in 1994. He covers the emerging e-Finance sector with responsibility for companies at the intersection of the Internet and financial services industry. Previously, he followed the mortgage and commercial finance industries and was a member of the Specialty Finance Group. Michael has a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Cornell University.

Chris Hussey, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in March 1995. He follows Latin America Internet and media stocks. Previously, Chris followed the Latin America cement & construction industry, in which he was ranked number one by Reuters and number three by Institutional Investor and Greenwich Associates. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Chris worked for a year as an equities analyst at Lehman Brothers and four years as a consultant with Grant Thornton. Chris has an M.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from Columbia University and an undergraduate degree from Harvard University.

Matthew Janiga, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in March 2000. He works in the Technology Group following Internet infrastructure network & services companies with Michael Parekh (Internet/software) and Frank Governali (Communacopia/telecommunications services). Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Matt was a telecommunications analyst at Lazard Frères & Co. LLC, where he covered competitive service providers. He also worked as an account executive at CTC Communications Corp. advising companies on voice and data network planning and systems integration. Matt has a B.A. from Boston College.

Barry A. Kaplan, Managing Director, joined Goldman Sachs in 1986. As a member of the Communacopia Research Team, he covers the wireless communications and cable television industries. He became a managing director in 1996. Barry is a CFA, and has been named a member of the Institutional Investor's All-America Research Team since 1988 and has been highly ranked in the Greenwich survey for the last eight years. In 1993, he was the co-recipient of the Investment Banking Division Innovation Award. Barry is a member of the Media and Entertainment Analyst Association of New York and a member of the Association of Investment Management and Research. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Barry was a vice president at Bear Stearns for one year, a media analyst at A.G. Becker for three years, and a financial analyst at the National Broadcasting Company for one year. Barry has an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from Brandeis University.

Steven Kahl, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in September 1999. He works in the Technology Group covering business-to-business infrastructure companies as well as business intelligence and enterprise resource planning vendors. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Steve covered enterprise software companies at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray. Before entering the securities business, Steve was a consultant with Deloitte & Touche as well as Andersen Consulting, where he implemented enterprise and supply chain management solutions worldwide. Steve is published in Supply Chain Management Review and is a subject matter expert for a course on advanced supply chain management being developed by the manufacturing educational society APICS. He has an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.


Amir Karim Photo Amir Karim (Canadian Technology)
Amir Karim, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in April 1998. He works in the Canadian Research Group covering industrial and technology companies. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Amir spent four years at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell in Montreal, Canada, covering Canadian aerospace and technology stocks. Amir has an M.B.A. in Finance from the École Des Hautes Études Commerciales in Montreal and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Toronto.

Gary Lapidus, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in September 1999. He works in the Cyclicals Group covering the U.S. auto and auto parts industries. Prior to that, he was a principal with the management consulting firm Booz Allen & Hamilton, where he specialized in strategy work for clients in the consumer goods and industrial sectors, including the automotive industry. Gary has an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School, an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology, and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts.

Vik Mehta, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in 1996. He presently is expanding his coverage to include incubation and Internet service providers. Previously, he was a financial analyst covering the Internet industry. Vik has participated in over 20 IPOs, including Yahoo! Inc. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, he was a senior technology analyst at Andersen Consulting. While at Andersen, Vik worked exclusively at Goldman Sachs implementing risk management systems for highly leveraged financial products. Vik has a B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he worked on several research projects that led to patented products in the biomedical and mechanical engineering fields.

Anne M. Meisner, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in 1992. She follows the Internet infrastructure software sector, including companies in the application development and deployment infrastructure group and the system level infrastructure group. Previously, Anne worked in Fixed Income Technology. She has more than 12 years of experience in software engineering. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Anne was a member of the technical staff at Bell Communications Research (formerly Bell Labs). Anne has an M.B.A. from Columbia University, an M.S. in Computer Science from Michigan State University, and a B.S. from the University of Wisconsin.

Anthony Noto, Vice President, is the e-commerce analyst at Goldman Sachs. His coverage of the sector includes Amazon.com, Ashford.com, barnesandnoble.com, e-Bay, eToys, 1-800-flowers.com, PlanetRx, Priceline, and Webvan. Anthony was ranked number one in the 2000 Greenwich Survey, and runner-up in Institutional Investor poll in his first year of coverage of the sector. He joined Goldman Sachs from Lehman Brothers where he was part of the Institutional Investor All-American Team covering the broadline retailing sector. Prior to Lehman Brothers, Anthony was a brand manager at Kraft Foods, Incorporated and a captain in the U.S Army as a telecommunications officer. Anthony was the number-one graduate in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Military Academy, and received his M.B.A. from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Tonia Pankopf, Vice President, joined Goldman Sachs in May 1999. She works in the Technology Group covering the Internet, specifically consumer media and service companies. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Tonia followed the Internet sector at several major securities firms. Also, she was an investment banker working with technology companies in Europe for a brief time. Before Tonia began her career on Wall Street, she worked in international trade and was involved in both the GATT and NAFTA negotiations. Tonia has a Master of Science from the London School of Economics and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland.


Rick Sherlund Photo Rick Sherlund (Computer Software/Services)
Richard G. Sherlund, Managing Director, joined Goldman Sachs in 1982. He heads the U.S. Investment Research Technology Group and follows the software industry. Rick has been rated the number-one software industry Analyst for the past ten years by Institutional Investor magazine. He has been closely involved with the firm's merger and investment banking activities, including the IPO of Microsoft. Rick co-authored Information Technology in Action, a book on the software market published in conjunction with Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a founding officer and past president of the Software and Computer Services Industry Analyst Group, and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Rick worked with Arthur Andersen & Co. in Los Angeles. He is a CPA in the state of California. Rick has an M.B.A. and a B.S. (with honors) from Cornell University.
