Goldman Sachs Special Opportunities (Asia) Fund

The Goldman Sachs Special Opportunites (Asia) Fund allows clients to participate in the economic recovery in Asia with both asset and geographic diversification. It also demonstrates our firm's ability to seize opportunity with unmatched speed anywhere in the global financial arena. At a time when Asian markets were affected by widespread political and economic turmoil, we assembled a dedicated team of experts to build a portfolio comprised primarily of distressed fixed income vehicles in Japan, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and Hong Kong. Seamlessly integrating the efforts of our investment banking, private client services, principal investing, research, high yield debt, currency trading and mortgage restructuring professionals from around the world, we quickly identified and invested in a wide range of promising opportunities ranging from corporate and consumer debt to equities and real estate-related instruments. Our deep knowledge and long-standing relationships with local governments and institutions, along with extensive experience in distressed markets in the U.S. and Europe, allowed us to address complex issues in building the portfolio. Thus far, over $1.5 billion has been committed to the fund by both institutions and individual investors. Going forward, the firm's established infrastructure in the region will enable us to quickly pursue additional opportunities and actively manage assets to optimize returns.
