Mellody Hobson: Promoting Financial Literacy and Diversity in Leadership
President of Chicago-based Ariel Investments and former chair of DreamWorks Animation, Mellody Hobson visited Goldman Sachs to discuss the importance of promoting financial literacy and the need for diversity in leadership.
On teaching more finance in school: “It boggles the mind that in American high schools you can take wood shop or auto, but in many places you can’t take a class on investing. We have to start with school. Just like you learn languages, you should learn about money very, very early on.”
On diversity in leadership: “The leadership ranks have to be diverse. Everyone always talks about the pipeline, but you can’t see what you can’t be. You’ve got to be able to look up to the highest levels of the organization and be able to see what is possible.”
