Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber’s Roadmap to the Future

Published on14 FEB 2018

As Uber continues to revolutionize the way people get from point A to point B, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has focused on expanding the company's reach around the world while repairing its image. In this episode, filmed at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference in San Francisco, CA, Khosrowshahi explains why he took the top job there and how he wants to make Uber the Amazon of transportation.

On why he took on the challenge of Uber: “This was a company in crisis, and I thought that I could make a real impact there. And, Uber is a company that is touching millions and millions of people across the world. We've got 3 million driver partners who are on our platform and are earning money on our platform. It is a verb. And if you think about, if you compare Uber to the travel business, we move more people than the entire airline industry. So, ultimately, to have the opportunity to make an impact on a company that I believe can change the face of transportation on a global basis, sometimes you get to a place in your life where you say, you know, ‘Let me give it a shot.’”

On his goals for Uber’s future: “In general, we want to be the largest transportation company in the transportation industry and we are about getting people or things from point A to point B. And obviously, we have a very big business in rides, in the car business. And the way I think about it is, cars are to us what books were to Amazon. And, just as Amazon went into other lines of business, we are going to go into other lines of business having to do with mobility and transportation.”
