New Directions: The Next Step in Your Career

New Directions: The Next Step in Your Career is the firm’s signature career event designed to facilitate networking and professional development opportunities for individuals who are looking to resume work in the financial services industry. Ideal candidates include women that have industry-related experience who have voluntarily left the workforce for two to three years and are looking to return.

At each event we help participants to prepare a career strategy; bring them up to speed on changes in the industry while they were out; and facilitate networking opportunities with other women and with Goldman Sachs managers.

Goldman Sachs developed this initiative in response to our co-sponsorship of the Hidden Brain Drain Taskforce's research entitled, "Off-Ramps and On-Ramps: Keeping Talented Women on the Road to Success." The Taskforce's research showed that although many women take an "off-ramp" at some point in their career, an overwhelming majority (93%) have every intention of returning to work.

As a result of the initiative, the firm has successfully hired a number of women who have taken career breaks. In addition, we have partnered with MBA programs such as Tuck Back in Business and the Harvard Business School to both source talented candidates and provide additional career development opportunities.

Upcoming Opportunity
On Tuesday, May 20th, 2008, Goldman Sachs will host a Dream Jobs, Inc. event, "Career Detours Event In NYC: Connecting On-Rampers with the Financial Services Industry." Goldman Sachs is sponsoring this event in connection with the firm’s ongoing New Directions initiative. The program agenda will include networking workshops, a keynote address by Dr. Sylvia Ann Hewlett, founding president of the Center for Worklife Policy, and a panel discussion featuring women who have returned to work and want to share their experiences. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with other on-rampers as well as with recruiters and managers from multiple firms.

The Dream Jobs event is structured with a limited number of attendee spots -- so registration is required ASAP. Attendees pay no fee to enter the event once they are pre-qualified and receive their e-ticket for entry. For pre-qualification and registration information, please go to Dream Jobs, Inc. Please complete the online registration form as soon as possible to ensure your participation in this event; seating is limited.
