Goldman Sachs Reports 2023 Full Year and Fourth Quarter Earnings Results

NEW YORK, JANUARY 16, 2024 – The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (NYSE: GS) today reported net revenues of $46.25 billion and net earnings of $8.52 billion for the year ended December 31, 2023. Net revenues were $11.32 billion and net earnings were $2.01 billion for the fourth quarter of 2023.

Diluted earnings per common share (EPS) was $22.87 for 2023 and was $5.48 for the fourth quarter of 2023. Return on average common shareholders’ equity (ROE) was 7.5% for 2023 and annualized ROE was 7.1% for the fourth quarter of 2023.

Goldman Sachs also delivered an update on progress of the firm’s simplified strategy, while laying out key objectives for 2024 and beyond. These include:

• Harnessing One Goldman Sachs to serve clients with excellence;
• Running world-class, differentiated and durable businesses; and
• Investing to operate at scale.

Selected items related to the execution of Goldman Sachs’ narrowed strategic focus, in addition to the FDIC special assessment fee, impacted the firm’s results for the full year and fourth quarter. For 2023, these items reduced net earnings by $2.8 billion, EPS by $8.04, and ROE by 2.6 percentage points. For the fourth quarter of 2023, these items reduced net earnings by $283 million, EPS by $0.83, and annualized ROE by 1.0 percentage point.
