Business Book Award

For the past five years Goldman Sachs has partnered with various local arts organizations and grade school students to create artwork that is replicated on large 5ft x 10ft vinyl mesh banners and installed outside of the firm’s Jersey City office.

This year's 2009 Student Art Project, 30 Girls Meet 10,000 Women, celebrates the one-year anniversary of 10,000 Women, our most significant corporate engagement effort, which provides business and management education to women in developing and emerging economies. Thirty girls, ages 8-13, from the Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County worked with local educators, entrepreneurs, the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), and 10,000 Women mentors over the course of four weeks to explore the power of female entrepreneurship through experiential art and writing workshops.

In profiling one of the entrepreneurs participating in the 10,000 Women initiative, each girl learned the fundamentals of beginning and sustaining a business. They asked questions and wrote about entrepreneurship, the principles of leadership, and their own dreams for the future. They also explored the landscapes of Rwanda, Nigeria and India and selected one as inspiration for their final artwork, which depicts a first meeting between themselves and their entrepreneur.

Past themes have included "Our Emerging World," which explored concepts of globalization in the emerging market countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRICs) and "Responsible for My World," which addressed environmental responsibility. Please visit the art gallery below to view all of the exhibits.
