I learned in the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program that I could delegate my work to other people, train them, trust them, and empower them to make decisions.
Sturm Welding is a custom metal-working company providing services for the farm and ranch industries, government agencies and more. Whether it’s fixing up fences for local farmers or ensuring a dam is operable, Sturm Welding gets it done.
For many years, “Woman of Steel” Shawn Dollar and her husband ran every facet of Sturm Welding. As time passed, they realized they needed to grow the business so they could focus on developing business strategies and spend more time with each other. That meant hiring new employees, delegating based on individual strengths and learning bookkeeping best practices, in addition to meeting the demands of a diverse and growing customer base.
Since graduating from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, Shawn has developed a growth plan and hired more than 20 new employees. All the extra help has allowed Shawn to focus on the marketing side of the business, a more natural passion, and on growth. New prospects are always coming in, and the client base is growing.
