Growing up in Malaysia, I was exposed to and engaged with individuals from a variety of cultures and worldviews. This type of collaboration taught me the importance of engaging with different viewpoints and perspectives, ultimately inspiring me to pursue a career in engineering that would allow me to become a problem solver and a collaborator.

I am the co-head of Engineering for the Singapore office where I also manage the end user support function for Asia within Enterprise Technology Operation (ETO).  We provide production management services through the use of large scale automation, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence. My team is responsible for supporting the production operating environment and for improving operating efficiency and reducing risk. Help Desk, an internal system that provides live support and expertise on technical issues that our people may experience – a crashed computer, how-to questions, misplaced or broken devices and more – is a platform my team handles. Engineers on the Help Desk helps make sure all newcomers to the firm have technology access, applications and  support they need to succeed in their roles.

I am passionate about the firm’s Community Team Works initiative as well as my role as co-chair of Asia Pacific Women in Engineering (APWE). Through the CTW program, I have had the chance to work with charities and create skill-based projects for our volunteers to integrate into our local communities. For example, I built a computer coding program for an all-girls secondary school in Singapore with the intent that the program would encourage more girls to pursue a degree and a career in STEM. Since developing the program, we have trained over 180 teenage girls. APWE more specifically focuses on hiring, retaining and promoting the women population at the firm. Most recently, APWE hosted events in Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo that focused on demystifying the interview process for women students.

Goldman Sachs is excellent at  leveraging technology as a critical competitive advantage of its growth strategy. Engineers make up a large percentage of the firm’s global workforce, and I see the investment in creative talent and innovative ideas through collaboration with both the engineering and business sides of the firm. This teamwork results in engineers being able to see how their work contributes directly to the success of our clients and the firm.

Outside of the office, I enjoy running and cycling. My favorite running spot is the MacRitchie Reservoir in Singapore, which offers a few different paths between five and twelve kilometers. There is also scenic boardwalk path along the reservoir edge for a panoramic views of the reservoir. I also love organizing and planning events. From charity events, to family activities, I enjoy the planning process and the logistics and activities surrounding these events.

Advice I would give to engineers is to always be hungry for knowledge, and do not be afraid to try new things or to fail. Either way, it will be a learning experience.
