As a member of the Office of Global Security (OGS) team within the Services Division, I have regional responsibility for fire safety in Asia, including Japan and India. The main objective of my work is to ensure the well-being of all Goldman Sachs people by mitigating and reducing the consequences of fire. This includes looking after all new buildings, expansions and existing facilities. My activities are varied and range from the highly strategic planning and development of Fire Safety management systems to more operational aspects like undertaking fire risk assessments and staff training. At the other end of the scale, I aid with the design of new firm building projects to meet local and regulatory building code compliance.

My work can be divided into three categories. In OGS I’m on a team of managers that have regional responsibilities for the safety of Goldman Sachs people. I also work very closely with the Corporate Services Real Estate (CSRE) teams to deliver local projects for the various Goldman Sachs businesses. Lastly, I work individually on the implementation and development of Fire Safety policy and systems for Asia with support from my counterparts in Europe and the Americas.

By providing creative solutions, I ensure a high safety standard and help Goldman Sachs meet its business needs. I really enjoy doing this. However one of the challenges of my work is to understand the different cultures, regulations and fire safety practices throughout the region and to apply various approaches to produce consistent results. Despite these challenges I think it’s very rewarding to observe the positive impact of my work in relation to improvements to the current standard of fire safety in Asia.
