I studied Mechanical Engineering at university and didn’t have a clue about investment banking. I did a couple of internships during university, doing graphics and cover art for a record company and then system implementation for a blue chip company. I was able to learn from both opportunities, but they weren’t as challenging as I expected. Goldman Sachs provided me with a fast-paced, mentally stimulating and challenging environment.

My advice to those considering a career in finance is to start early. Don’t wait till your final year of university to start learning about the industry. Find out what the industry is about, find out which part of it interests you and then put your 110% into it. Attend the networking events, aim to meet and learn from as many people in the industry as you can. Develop a passion for it.
