My Work

I work in the Operational Risk Department, on a team of about 20 employees globally, with a presence in New York, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Bangalore. Operational risk is a fairly new discipline in the finance space. It’s defined by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision as the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people and systems, or from external events.

The primary goal of our team is to reduce the firm’s exposure to operational risk losses. Because we’re a small team, each member has a greater responsibility, as well as a greater influence, in determining the strategies taken.

Operational Risk is not as mature a discipline as Credit or Market Risk, therefore our group is still defining the scope and direction of the operational risk framework. This means that there’s an entrepreneurial feel and a creative aspect to the group, with strategy off-sites and opportunities to travel to the different offices for knowledge sharing and brainstorming.
