In my first semester at university I wanted to specialise in Marketing and Strategy. This view changed over the next few semesters especially after attending a financial management course in my second semester This involved, apart from regular classroom studies, tracking an allocated stock on a regular basis and giving recommendations on investing in the stock. As a result, I changed my course specialisation to Finance and Marketing which ultimately lead to me applying for a position at Goldman Sachs and joining the firm.
My advice to anyone considering a career in finance is to first try and get to know the various opportunities in finance like research, investment banking, operations, etc. and then decide which profile suits you best. I believe that finance is a good industry to work in if you like a intense and challenging job.
