I worked at a ratings agency in New York before my junior year of college which helped me decide that I wanted to go into finance. Although I was invited back to that company I decided that as someone new to the industry I wanted a job that allowed me to see the bigger picture and have broader exposure to different products and regions. I grew up in Asia and then came to the US for high school and college so I wanted to leverage my language skills and cultural knowledge to gain from the immense growth opportunities in Asia. I ended up joining Goldman Sachs as a summer analyst in PWM in Hong Kong.
At first, I was overwhelmed with the amount of information that was thrown at me. However, one thing that impressed me from the start was the willingness of professionals to spend time providing me with guidance and the tools to grow my career. Thanks to their support, I managed to get up to speed rather quickly.
Despite the inherent differences between everyone at the firm, everyone has the same goal in mind – achieving excellence. I enjoy the intellectual conversations among team members - everyone’s input is valued and no one person dominates the thinking process. I repeatedly see how teamwork, collaboration and the constant exchange of ideas deliver successful end-results.
