Working at Goldman Sachs is definitely not the career I originally had in mind. During my school days, I always wanted to be a programmer which is what led me to study software engineering. In college, I assumed I would find a job at a core technology firm after graduation. I later discovered that there are various other domains in addition to the tech industry with opportunities for those with my skills and interests. I found that the most interesting to me out of all those sectors is finance, hence the reason I joined Goldman Sachs.
If you are a technologist and have the desire to learn about the world of business then finance is the place to be. There is an immense amount of information for you to learn and like most industries finance will present you with its own unique challenges. I would suggest that anyone considering finance talk to whomever they know working in the industry in order to gain a better understanding of what they might be getting into. Also, make sure you seek out a job that adheres to your needs. After all, you want to love your job – this will not only make you happy in your career but it will lead you to excel.
