I am currently working on a project involving the sourcing of information from one of our key systems. The initiative is a giant leap in the way of sourcing large amounts of data which will be applicable for various regulatory applications across the firm. The best part of this assignment is that I am given the opportunity to interact with global team members in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangalore and New York.

My day is also full of challenges. The first is being able to understand all the requirements that we must follow as there are many complicated rules presented by the regulators, which therefore make our systems more complicated. Controllers make this task easier by helping us navigate through these frequent requirement changes. The second major challenge is adhering to strict deadlines. For example, we are expected to issue net capital on a daily basis. Any errors or delays could result in a fine or penalties on activities in that market. It is crucial that any issues that arise are addressed immediately.

The most rewarding part of my job occurs when a project is delivered on time and when I am able to see my systems used efficiently in order to benefit the firm. Making someone’s life easier through technological solutions gives me a great feeling!
