Myself

For a brief period when I was younger I thought about going into the finance field when I grew up. However, it wasn’t until I began pursuing my Master’s degree in Economics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and preparing myself for the job hunt that it became clear to me that I really wanted to start my career at an investment bank, Goldman Sachs being my top choice.

I think before you go after a finance position you first need to ask yourself whether you are really interested in finance. Only come to this industry because you truly like it, not because it seems like a hot industry that everyone wants to be in. Second, be prepared. I did quite a bit of research before I stepped into the Goldman Sachs office for my internship interview. The competition to get a position at a top financial institution is high and that means good preparation, which I feel comes from the accumulation of knowledge on a day-to-day basis, is necessary. Third, keep in mind that it is not all glory and wealth in this industry, there are also pressures. That means that sometimes when you gain something you may have to give up other things and therefore mental preparation is very important.
