I am a member of the Global Investment Research team in Hong Kong. Our team covers Asia telecommunications operators (telecoms) and my primary focus is on Chinese telecoms. The key responsibility of a research analyst is to do in-depth fundamental research on the particular industry and the companies under coverage. We then must come up with investment recommendations for our various clients which include mutual funds, hedge funds, private wealth individuals, private equity funds and corporate clients. Our research is a combined effort based on company visits, field studies, financial modelling, valuation and various logical research methodologies. We assemble our ideas on paper by creating research reports and then ‘sell’ our ideas to the clients through marketing materials, meetings, calls and conferences. In addition to covering my primary coverage stocks, I support the senior analyst with her coverage.
I believe that Goldman Sachs’ global presence and strong global teamwork are what make the firm so successful. The firm’s global network enables us to better serve the clients’ needs, especially since they are always curious about market trends in various parts of the world. I truly think that the firm’s global reach is a huge factor in why clients return to us - to gain that comprehensive picture of different issues.
