I trained as a Chartered Accountant at one of the Big 4 accountancy firms, working for a wide range of clients across many industry sectors. After almost ten years I didn’t expect to leave professional services until a recruitment consultant spoke to me about a role within Goldman Sachs. It seemed like an opportunity to investigate. I wasn’t actively looking for a new job but the name and reputation of Goldman Sachs quickly swayed me. From the start of the recruitment process, I was highly impressed by the opportunities here and the people I met, which gave me the confidence to take the leap into the banking industry. I haven’t looked back since and only wish I had done it sooner.

My first thought about the firm was – “how big is this place!?” I think my initial perception was that within the first couple of months I would have learned everything I needed to know. However, the firm is much larger than one would imagine and there is so much to understand about the different businesses, the regions where we operate and their differing cultures, the areas that support and underpin the firm’s operations, etc. It is definitely a continuous learning experience when you are responsible for such a wide portfolio. I don’t think I will ever get to know it all but that’s the challenge of my role!
