My Path

Before coming to Goldman Sachs, I worked for a ratings agency. Much of the work that I did there involved meeting with a company’s management team to discuss the handling of their finances. I soon came to the realization that my interest was in the actual financial management of a company rather than sitting on the other side of the table analyzing how someone else does it. That is when I was contacted by a recruiter who told me that a position was available in the Corporate Treasury department of Goldman Sachs. I came in and met several people in the department and from my conversations with them knew that this position was the ideal fit.

My first impression of the firm was how different it was from anywhere else I had ever worked. From the beginning I was given significant responsibility and was assigned a project which required me to analyze the firm’s approach to its open market share repurchase program. Instead of being told how to approach the problem, I was given an end goal and it was up to me to devise a way of getting there. I learned that management gives you a great deal of latitude to think creatively as opposed to mandating a certain way of thinking or doing.
