I am currently working on a project reviewing how the firm funds all of its’ securities inventory, both in a “normal” and stressed environment. The results of this project will be used to help determine how much long term debt we need to raise over the near term to support this inventory. What is most interesting about this assignment is that there is no model or formula to tell you the correct answer.
By far the most challenging part of my job is balancing multiple, competing priorities. These can be long-term projects in which you need to keep the momentum going to keep the team focused and motivated, or short, one-hour projects which require you to put everything else aside and focus on the immediate task at hand. Getting everything done both accurately and in a timely manner requires a delicate balance of efficiency, management of expectations, and knowing when to delegate certain responsibilities to other members of the team.
The most rewarding part of my day is the opportunity to work with so many smart, driven, dedicated people.
