I am a managing director in Internal Audit with global responsibilities for the audit team that covers our Investment Management business. Additionally, I am a member of the Internal Audit Executive Management team, which has overall responsibility for setting and executing the department’s strategic objectives. I am also co-chair of the Legal, Compliance and Internal Audit Black Network, a group that develops recruitment and retention initiatives for black professionals within these divisions.
My daily responsibilities can range from working with the department’s management to set strategic objectives, to liaising with the IMD audit managers to execute the annual risk based audit plan to ensure that we have adequate resources in place to complete it. I am also involved with projects my team works on, to determine the scope of each review, the adequacy of the execution and the escalation and resolution of issues identified.
As a managing director, I build many relationships with regulators, on-and-offshore boards, external clients and the IMD stakeholders. I need to ensure that the global audit team keeps abreast of the changes in the business and dynamically assesses the risks associated with such changes.
What I enjoy most about my role is working in an intellectually challenging environment with smart, motivated people. Teamwork is crucial in Internal Audit and at the firm generally. Given the complexities of the businesses we audit, it is imperative that we utilize collective decision making and leverage the various skill sets of our colleagues.
