An exchange program sparked my interest in working for a global business. When I was finishing up my undergrad degree in Computer Science, I signed up for an exchange program in Switzerland.  For a semester, I studied with other exchange students from all over the world. That’s when I learned that I really enjoy meeting people of different nationalities, with different perspectives.  It was a natural fit for me to work for a global business.

I chose Goldman Sachs because of how much it leverages technology across its businesses. The firm depends heavily on its systems to make trades quickly. I like being able to see how the work I do makes an immediate impact on the day-to-day lives of our traders and our clients.

My team handles Equity Technology across Asia. We make sure the firm’s traders and clients have the technology they need for what they want to trade. And if anyone has a question about the system they’re using, we’re right there to support them.  The best part of my job is seeing how my work helps our traders engage more clients.

As an engineer, I get to build things from scratch. It’s one of the things I love about coding—I can create solutions with just my brain and a computer. In my two years here, I’ve had opportunities to work on front-office areas like FX handling and inventory checking, and post-trade areas like booking systems.

The environment at Goldman is open and collaborative. I can always ask other teams for opinions or just stop by to understand the system flow in another division. Everyone here is helpful and collaborative. You get a lot of opportunities to try new things and be a lifelong learner.  I have been building my knowledge in C++, Java, and Slang, our proprietary language.

I try to inspire the next generation of women in technology.  I am on the core team of the firm’s Girls in Technology Network, which organizes events to get teenage girls interested in technology. These might be anything from a half-day coding workshop to a full-day Community TeamWorks event.  We give them a taste of technology as a career, do some coding, and take them on a tour of the Goldman Sachs office.  It’s the type of opportunity I would have enjoyed when I was that age.  So I’m glad to have the chance to make an impact on the next generation.

I love to travel, hike, and do trail running. One of the best trips I’ve done was an 8-day trek through Nepal. I’ve also hiked Mount Fuji in Japan, Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia, and I’ve cycled Taiwan from north to south. I enjoy exploring the wonderful landscape and country culture. In addition to hiking, I enjoy the adventure of trail running. I have completed the HK Oxfam Trail Walker for 2 years in a row.
