What is your role in the Technology Division at Goldman Sachs?
I am working in the securities trade processing team, within the Post Execution Platforms business unit. My primary focus is on testing to improve code coverage.

What does your average week look like?
For the first part of my week I attend lectures and lab sessions at Queen Mary University. From Wednesday onwards I come into the office and continue my learning and development by working towards my objectives. This includes researching, writing code, networking, and learning more about the firm.

Why did you decide to pursue the degree apprenticeship programme?
My brother is currently doing a degree apprenticeship and I was inspired by how much he is enjoying it, so I decided to do the same.

What were you doing before you joined the programme?
I was studying A-levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, and Physics. Following that I took a gap year and gained retail work experience.

In your view, what are the benefits of studying and working at the same time?
I enjoy getting the opportunity to apply the knowledge I gain in university to a practical work environment. I also have many meaningful interactions in a professional environment at an important stage in my academic and career development plans.

How have you approached balancing responsibilities for your university studies and your work at Goldman Sachs?
At the beginning I focused on the work that I had to complete and devised a rough time plan for finishing my tasks. I have since tried to track against it and adjust accordingly if needed.

What’s the one piece of advice from your experience that you would pass on to someone applying to an apprenticeship programme?
Ask lots and lots of questions and get good at note taking!
