Analysts Celebrate Conclusion of Gray Wolf Program with Global Expos

21 SEP 2017

Our new class of 2017 Engineering analysts recently completed their first assignment: Gray Wolf.  Gray Wolf is a seven-week program where new analysts design, build, test and deliver solutions for high-impact engineering projects across the firm.  This year’s program ran from the end of July to the first week of September globally.

“Gray Wolf enables new analysts to experience all of what we do at Goldman Sachs Engineering in their first professional assignment,” said Alexis Vassilakas, a managing director and the 2017 Gray Wolf coordinator. “They meet new stakeholders, explore new technologies, solve problems against a deadline and directly contribute to the bottom line of the firm.”

At the conclusion of the program, over 300 analysts presented their final projects and celebrated their accomplishments during several expos held in New York, London, Salt Lake City, Bengaluru and Warsaw.

Gray Wolf was first launched in 2014 to provide analysts with the opportunity to work on projects outside of their typical scope of work – allowing them to quickly forge and develop new connections across the firm. Analysts work with engineering teams that span the firm’s businesses, digging into everything from front-end web development to back-end configuration. For the first time, a strats team also sponsored a project.

The 2017 Gray Wolf class completed 44 projects and committed a total of 7.8 million lines of code. “When new analysts join Goldman Sachs, one recurring theme that I’ve noticed is their desire to solve real business problems and add value as soon as possible,” said Tim Bishop, a managing director and sponsor of the Gray Wolf analyst program. “I love the enthusiasm that I see from the new analysts during their projects, as well as the final results.”

“During Gray Wolf, I learned new coding practices and workflows from the strats team that we worked with in the Merchant Banking Division, which I know I will bring back to my team. I greatly enjoyed meeting with and getting to know a team from a completely different area of the firm, learning about both the financial and technical aspects,” said Max, a 2017 Gray Wolf participant.
