Profile: Manish, Services Division

The following article was written by Manish, an analyst in our Services Division in London, who talks about his path to joining the firm after having completed an apprenticeship at Goldman Sachs.

Since leaving school I eagerly awaited the right opportunity to focus my professional development towards my core interest; finance. My passion for working in the world of finance stems from its widespread and constantly evolving nature and a general love of the prospect of helping clients and businesses on an international and local basis.

Instead of pursuing higher education, I decided to enter the workforce. An invaluable experience in itself, these roles revealed to me my preference for and proficiency in on-the-job based learning. It was this realization that led me to apply for an apprenticeship with Goldman Sachs.

The Apprenticeship programme provided me the unique opportunity to gain qualifications in a vocational setting and pursue a lifelong passion for working in the finance industry.

The apprenticeship consisted of four days in the office and one day at school, where I completed my National Vocational Qualification. I was placed in the Corporate Services and Real Estate division, specifically in the Hospitality Operations function. Throughout the programme I was given the opportunity to support the team across a wide range of projects and received a wealth of training and support from the people around me (buddy, mentor, colleagues and managers). I am proud to say that when my apprenticeship came to an end, I was offered a full-time role with Goldman Sachs. I am now an Analyst in hospitality operations: We are responsible for the delivery of all employee restaurants, the provision of Client catering, events and private dining on Campus. We also provide Reception Services to all ground floor lobbies and certain upper floors across all buildings and manage Conference Services across the EMEA region.

It‘s difficult to put into words how much I learned and developed throughout the apprenticeship programme. It has certainly provided me with a breadth of skills and experiences and this experience proves that companies like Goldman Sachs place huge value on their people, and want to see them excel and grow within the firm.
